I see NO problem with legwarmers, or even armwarmers for that reason. When you've got pizazz, you can make anything classy!
So far, a girl in hairschool said she loved my outfit and that I was, "so totally cute" (and you KNOW, them girls KNOW), and a man coming out of Circuit City stopped me to tell me that I "really have style."
