Guess who's wearing her pretty in pink prom dress?
You might be right.
And guess who is soooo excited to re-live her Senior prom? And maybe it's because I ditched out on Prom to watch Pretty in Pink with my gay friends that it is such a sweet, sweet memory. And while that night, there were unamimous outbursts of, "BLAINE!!!" let there be no doubt that, in my heart of hearts, I was always a Duckie girl.

thanks for letting me relive the dream with your pearls and that RING.
BLAINE!
It's even better than I remembered. BLAINE!!!
O, John Hughes. You and your cheap-trick heartstring moves get me every time. Did you notice how hard they fought to "make this happen"? I don't think I've ever worked that hard. Of course, I'm no unemployed coal-miner's daughter with a flair for fashion with a richie blue-eyed BLAINE after me...
sigh.
Too bad highschool really didn't come with that sweet sound track.
We were so robbed. The 80's was such a cooler time to be in highschool than the 90's!
They had Molly Ringwald, we had Alicia Silverstone. Where is the justice?
i have an eternal love for 80's new wave music. especially that song and that group. i only noticed that it says my name a few years ago.
people always tell me i look like molly ringwald. i don't really think that's a compliment though. no offense.
and ps, is it just me or is that first kiss they have in the movie totally awkward looking?
PS- I ALSO spent my Jr.Prom watching Pretty In Pink, with my bff's Ben and Jerry.
I ended up having the best Jr. Prom experience out all of my friends.
Oh how I wish that had been my prom.
My friend was on prom court and all our guys friends decided to go to the X-games that night instead. So a bunch of us girls went together and then hung out on the strip.
It was fun but also a little lame and pathetic.
I wanted to punch Duckie in the mouth a handful of times in this movie... but he kind of redeems himself when he tears down that banner in a fit of rage and it looks very silly... that always gets a few laughs out of me.
Blaine. He can't kiss, that's why it's awkward. He's lipless. He and Andy have incompatible lips. It's sad.
this movie definitely wins for most awkward kissing. it's definitely no Top Gun Take My Breath Away scene.
It is sad that Blaine is lipless. Lips are very important to me.
I thought of Caroline EVERY TIME I saw those pouty-pout Molly Ringwald lips; I said to myself, "Molly is just like a less pretty Caroline!"
I suspect her plump lips were due to the intense effect of such Andrew McCarthy kisses. I blame John Hughes for not knowing how a good kiss should be. Not Blaine. He would be outstanding.
ps-
Superfan, I'm a little embarassed. But. Thank you. Do you at least call and talk to me in real life, because that would make this exchange less awkward...
When I watched this movie (mind you the first time wasn't when I was young but a few years ago) and the spent most of the time being confused thinking "Wait Duckie's homosexual, right? Oh wait, I guess not. Oh wait, yeah, he is. Oh wait, no he's not."
But then I realized how John Hughes is a genius because Duckie is that guy friend from high school who was your total bud, who didn't have guy friends, who would help give opinions on your outfits, and at the time you didn't think twice about it. Then years after high school you hear about how he moved to SF and you realize he was being bitchy to Blaine because Blaine was so fabulous and he felt threatened. Way to go John Hughes for seeing the multi layered characters from adolescence.
Am I the only one who picked up that vibe?
Broek
O. I vibe Duckie. Totally.
But I DID find out 5 years later that all my boy friends from high school really DID move into the city and are gay. I still fantasize that one day, my Prom date will dump his boyfriend and come back to me. I LOVE YOU, DUCKIE!!!
