Blogging is the new Porn.

My friend Caroline won't blog because she thinks her life is boring. But here's what she IM'd me as what her blog would be, and I think it's perfect:
so... i worked today and didn't love it.
then i ate some food.
and liked that better.
the end.

Some favourite blogs:

  • 13 O'Clock. www.14oclock.com My first time. I didn't even this was called a blog until I started seeing others. See how innocent and pure I used to be?
  • Breezlebub. www.hannahighpoint.blogspot.com She's a Republican, but I love her anyway.
  • Cancer Candy.* www.cancercandy.blogspot.com Veeda's site makes me cry for her honesty, sincerity, and bravery.
  • RepliKate. www.replikate.blogspot.com You'll read all about how her weekends are so much better than any of mine. But I pretty much just sit around and watch tivo. Seriously.
  • The New Awesome. www.thenewawesome.blogspot.com Nothing better than new awesomeness every day. Or a calendar of year 'round Peeps.
  • Gladhanded. www.gladhanded.blogspot.com In the mid-nineties, everyone I knew had a crush on him, but he still won't believe me. Now I add the blog to things I like about Damian Dayton, along with his cousin, Tom.

Please add to the list. I doubt anyone is as unseasoned a blogger as I am. And I know I've left some off the list. So please. Tell me what blogs have lured you in... Kelli- This is for you.

*If anyone knows Derek's blog, I lost the site- it was fantastic, and very reassuring. Plus, it was full of bald hotties. purrrr.

Read often. Comment lots. It makes me feel less self-indulgent if I know people are actually connecting with each other. Or spying. Or Eavesdropping.
My blog. The new Happy Hour.

As much as Bree mocks me for saying so, blogging IS self-indulgent. It says, "I think I'm fascinating! Look everyone! Look how interesting MY life is! I'm so funny and witty! Don't you just Loooove my opinions?!?!"

But then I have to go around ASKING people to read...and that part is rather embarassing...Even more embarassing is that I've started wandering onto pages of people I don't even know and cannot resist commenting on their blogs! Even worse, I find people I haven't talked to in years, but because I haven't figured out how to identify myself, I end up posting familial comments that come off as creepy because I have no picture!

It's like voyerism or stalking or eavesdropping, only from the convenience of your own home. Basically blogging is the new porn. Or maybe it's more like a bar scene- except people aren't yelling in your ear or spilling anything on you; but they're still trying to entertain everyone that will notice and sometimes I've seen some (started some) mild flirtations (heavy-handed come-ons) going on in the wild world of bloggers.

It's only self-indulgent if you actually think anyone other than friends and family looks at your blog, which is untrue of 99% of the blogs out there.

Derek's blog: http://dereks.wordpress.com/

I doubt he'll be posting on it any more though...

isn't almost everything we do self-indulgent?

O, Linds- There are lots of blogs I check frequently that are not on this list- you KNOW I read yours, you nerd.
Katie- You know that everything I do is selfless and for the good of All Mankind.

Now, weren't you experts supposed to be making suggestions on blogs we should be reading...you CAN list more than just your own.

I prefer to consider it tasteful porn, a mix of art and lust and well-chosen adjectives.

I think it's self indulgent - I admit it. I like being self indulgent. It's why I get into so much trouble.

Someday I'll make your effing list. And I won't sleep until I do.

hey in my defense-i only post the two hours per weekend that are totally awesome. otherwise i'm pretty much sitting in front of this thing or catching up with tivo too.

O dear...You all KNOW I read your blogs and post way more opinions than necessary- what I want to know is:
Who are YOU looking at?

Veeda- Last night my friend said she read your blog. The words, "brilliant writer," and "incredible" were used. We also discussed how Brendan's post made us actually think marriage could be something really extraordinarily good.

Dear ma'am,

Thanks for saying a nice thing about me (I found it after vainly googling myself[not as bad as it sounds]).

I really don't believe it. I had no luck with the lady folk in the mid 90's, and my streak extends to our present times.

It's not for lack of trying. Or...IS IT?
Things Damian can do to get ladies to love him:
1) Show them his hands. They are amazing.
2) Show them his art. As I recall, it was good.
3) ASK THEM OUT.

Somehow I think #3 might be the most successful route...But what do I know. He's never asked me.
