Expensive Mistakes.

And they were all in one weekend. Good thing I'm such a miser in Real Life. This way I can afford all my expensive weekend mistakes.

Speeding + Traffic School from business trip: $202
DMV Renewal (I was going to do it any minute now...): $132
Friday's Post-80s Prom* Breakfast at Harbour House: $18
Isaac's Concert + obligatory sugar-high (thanks, Karen): $14
Running out of gas in BFE, San Onofre: $32
Being rescued by Marines from Camp Pendelton: PRICELESS.

I was really wishing I had a camera with me. This weekend was truly priceless. Especially the drift off the freeway and walking up to 3 Marines, smiling, waving, and yelling, "I'm in distress!" I had prayed to float home off the fumes, determined to drive on faith alone. I may have been late for the Morning Session of General Conference, but the Lord gave me the opportunity to give out 3 dedicated Book of Mormon's and 3 Protein Bars to my new heros.

Prayer works. Amen.

*Thanks to the resourceful and stylish Eckman for the amazing prom dress. After trying on many sequined, lace-abounding, ill-fitting gowns from a suspect-smelling Salvation Army, I realized I haven't felt that unattractive SINCE the 80s. Seriously. My other option would have surely resulted in hives.
I promise you, I NEVER felt this cool in the 80s.
Notice that Kevin is with several women. But when a man wears leopard print spandex and plays the tambourine, that's just what's to be expected at prom. Rawr. It really was this awkward...

if there was a costume that included buck teeth, a headgear, and an intense feeling of awkwardness, i could re-live the 80's too!

You're top picture is most convincing... although we know you have legs and your legs are almost non-existent in that photo.

At least you can share these radtastical pictures with everyone for free.

Although nothing in life is free. You know better.

I gotta say, I found these pictures both hilarious and disturbing at the same moment. I thought the funniest part was that everyone looked like throw backs from try-outs to be an extra in 16 Candles, except for the dude that KR is crawling all over with the green and white polo and jeans, who just looks like every other guy to ever live on the east coast. Flawlessly executed. You should all be proud/ashamed.

Also, Rhyll and KR, good job replicating the hair-do of every f-chick that ever went to Dixon and Provo High with me back in the day. I've got Alphaville's Forever Young stuck in my head now for some reason. Thanks for the memories.

I'm not kidding- I must've tried on at least 9 dresses that afternoon, and they all had that suspicious "Salvation Army" purification smell lingering in the beading. And the sequins (o! The Sequins!!!) had my skin just CRAWLING on my asymetrical neckline with the one long sleeve (also covered in sequins) and sequins rubbing my exposed underarm skin on the other arm.

It was on for maybe 4 minutes as I practiced a quick showtunes routine in the dressing room (which is what I always do when trying on gowns- of course). By then I realised that if I chose to wear this dress:
1) I would melt inside
and
2) My entire body- in and out of the dress- would break out in hives and possibly draw surface wounds.

Thank you, Eckman, for rescuing me. I am still rash-free and silky smooth. And it's the first time I ever felt good about myself in the 80s. However, that still did not manage to get me in anyone's backseat.
I f*ing HATE Prom.

Blog Queen: maybe you should repost the comment you deleted. we'd all like to share in the profanity.

Katie Rose: if you'd saved me more than 1/4 can of hair spray, maybe my hair wouldn't have fallen by picture time. thanks.

dally llama: who are you?

I don't believe in censorship. Someone censored themselves before I had the chance to feign offense. Damn the Missed Opportunity.

Man, I love it! That's the most fun dance I think I've ever been to. Loved the 80's! And, surprisingly, all the guys thought all the girls were hot.
Looks like we aren't the only ones stuck in the 80's...

I actually HAVE a foto of us from a jr. high dance. You're wearing a flowered off-the-shoulder dresses and big hair and all. Reliving it looks a lot more fun that it was actually being there. lol.
